Hunting - A Quick Guide...

A very simple task that is essential for every kindred to master in order to continue their existence. When your character needs to hunt prey, and it will happen, you should start a scene stating what you are doing, and roll the appropriate dice pool, in this case Perception.

Each success on the roll indicates a potential vessel that your character can attempt to feed from. Once you select a prey from those identified, the others move on and your scene progresses.

A fail on the roll yields no potential vessels. A botched roll means that your character has identified someone that they believe to be a possible prey. As with all dice rolls, your character will only know that they have tried their best. It should be noted that a botch does not mean you have encountered another supernatural creature, it could mean anything, some examples of which are below:

A) A Diseased Vessel
B) An Intoxicated/Drugged Vessel
C) A Police Officer (Plain Clothes)
D) Another Kindred
E) Another Supernatural Creature

Your character will not know any of this, so the scene should progress as normal. Some example scenes are provided below for reference.

Aaron arrives in the area surrounding the Soup Kitchen, his attention given over fully to the task of finding a suitable prey.

As you wander around the area, you notice a couple of likely targets. One is a man, obviously a homeless person judging by his tattered clothing. The other is a woman wearing the colours of the Southside Slayers.

Carefully considering his options, Aaron decides to go for the homeless man, and approches him. "Evening friend. How would like to earn a hundred dollars?"

The man looks up at you, his eyes alight at the prospect of such a sum of money. He stands up to face you. "Depends on what I gotta do buddy."

"Simple enough really neighbour. Just go to sleep."

The man slumps forward towards you and you catch him in your arms with little effort.

Aaron looks around the immediate area for anyone who could witness his act.

You can see nobody that you believe would witness your feeding attempt.

Aaron drinks from the man, savouring the taste of the lifeblood coarsing over his tongue and trickling down his throat. (2 Vitae). He then licks the wound clean, and deposits the man on the ground gently, taking a hundred dollars from his pocket and putting it in the man's pocket before leaving the scene.

Narcissa leaves the Communal Haven on the verge of losing control to the beast. She looks around for someone to sate her thirst on.

As you prowl around you notice three possible vessels. The first is a teenager on her way home from an after school activity. She looks quite athletic. The second is a man in a suit. He's around average height and is carrying a briefcase. The third is a woman getting bags of shopping from her car.

Looking over everything, Narcissa allows the beast within to make the decision. It chooses the easiest target, the woman getting the shopping from her car and Narcissa approaches from behind, intent on enjoying every second. She attempts to strike the woman on the head with enough force to knock her out.

Your blow finds its mark on the back of the woman's head and she falls to the ground with a satisfying thud, unconscious. (4 Bashing)

Narcissa bends down and bites into the woman, draining every drop of vitae from her. (10 Vitae).

Considering the amount of vitae you are consuming, I think we can safely say that the beast is going to be sated, so there is no need for a Self-Control roll.

Satisfied that she now has enough vitae, Narcissa leaves the scene, not caring about the body in the street.
